Robert "Bob" Lewis joined McHale | Slavin of counsel in 2009. He has been practicing law for over 35 years with an emphasis on intellectual property, regulatory compliance (e.g. FDA), and advertising and marketing law. He has extensive intellectual property experience in patent, trade secret, trademark and copyright matters. His practice has included preparation and prosecution practice before the USPTO, TTAB and Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences, Federal Circuit and litigation support in State and Federal courts. He has written patent applications in technical areas including food, machinery, packaging, physics, oil, electromechanical devices and mechanical devices. Mr. Lewis previously served as General Counsel of Leaf, Inc., Chief Technology and Patent Counsel of Kraft Foods, and Patent and Trademark Counsel of The Pillsbury Company.

Mr. Lewis also has comprehensive experience in Advertising and Marketing law. He has handled matters including ad claims, country of origin labeling, regulated terms, sweepstakes, coupons, false and deceptive advertising, right of publicity, ad agency agreements, comparative ads, and ad challenges. He has given numerous speeches on advertising and marketing law and has lectured at St. Louis University School of Business. Mr. Lewis’ additional accomplishments include writing and editing a book on advertising and marketing law; serving as a guest speaker on Trademark law at the Ensminger Foundation Conference series in Korea ; and being a founder and chairman of Husch Blackwell Sanders’ Advertising and Marketing Law Group. Mr. Lewis’ undergraduate degree is in mechanical engineering with a specialty in energy conversion.
